How do I turn on Wi-Fi hotspot (data sharing) on Android devices?
To turn on Wi-Fi hotspot on your Android smartphone or Android device as a hotspot, see instructions corresponding to the brand of your device:
Samsung Navigate to Connections > Mobile hotspot and tethering > Mobile Hotspot and toggle it on. A pop-up window will appear, where you can find the Wi-Fi password for devices that want to connect.
Motorola Navigate to Settings > Network & internet > Hotspot & tethering. Here, you can select to share a connection via Wi-Fi, USB, or Bluetooth.
For a Wi-Fi connection, tap Wi-Fi hotspot and toggle it on. The hotspot name will be displayed on this screen. Tap Advanced > Hotspot password for the password.
Google Pixel Pull down from the top of the screen and navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & tethering > Wi-Fi Hotspot, and toggle the switch to on. The hotspot name and password will then be visible.
Huawei Navigate to Settings > Wireless & networks >Tethering & portable hotspot > Portable Wi-Fi hotspot. Choose Configure Wi-Fi hotspot to set a name, security setting, and password for your hotspot, then tap Save.
From your Android Smartphone’s Quick Settings Swipe down from the top of the screen to view notifications. Swipe down again to see quick settings. Tap Mobile hotspot to enable. If the Hotspot shortcut isn’t already there, tap Edit, then long-press on Hotspot and drag it to the grid of tiles.

Must need in Japan
Although service was spotty in some areas, I was able to use my phone for most of my trip. I would definitely recommend getting Ubigi as it was easy to use.

Absolute lifesaver for our trip to Italy
Absolute lifesaver for our trip to Italy—highly recommended!
I had no idea Ubigi would be such a fantastic option for traveling abroad. It was completely seamless, just as advertised. In fact, it connected while we were still in the air and preparing to land!
The data connection was completely uninterrupted throughout our entire trip. It worked flawlessly in major cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice, as well as in more rural and coastal areas like Tuscany, Sorrento, Chianti, San Gimingnano, and Pompeii. I absolutely loved the service and highly recommend Ubigi to anyone traveling to Italy!
The rate was way way cheaper than that of our regular providers in the US.

The purchase
The purchase, set up, and activation were all SO easy and seamless. We were able to land in a foreign country and have immediate data service which was so comforting to know we would have help via the internet (Google Maps, websites, etc…). For nearly 20 days in Japan, the connection and speed was excellent for our trip, except one evening when there was an outage. I realize this can happen with any tech company or internet/cell provider. But for several hours we had no access unless able to hop on free WiFi. Thankfully the timing for us worked out and we were able to manage just fine without, but could be quite the disruption if someone was relying on it. Definitely a good idea to have downloaded as many options for use offline for these cases (screenshots of ticket barcodes, Google Maps, Google Translate, hotel info, etc…) The outage was resolved by the next morning and Ubigi did make it right by providing a coupon code for the next time we need an eSIM. Despite the hiccup I would still use Ubigi next time as it really was so slick and the cost compared to what our cell provider international plan was a huge savings.

Poor start in Japan, great results for the rest.
The first two days of my trip in Japan, the cellular data connection was very inconsistent. I resorted to paying for my line overseas because it even stopped working at some point. Eventually, I received an email with an apology since my esim wasn’t working and it was amazing for the rest of the trip. It never failed once, never lost connection, remained at consistent speed no matter the location. I think what happened at the start of the trip was unfortunate, but it proved to be great for the rest of it.
