How to install an eSIM profile manually on iPhone?
To add an eSIM profile manually on your iPhone, you need the “activation code” linked to the eSIM profile you want to install. The activation code is usually provided with the QR code used for the automatic installation and it looks like this:
1$consumer.rsp.world$NNNN8888NNNNZZZZ
To add your eSIM profile manually on your iPhone, go to : – Settings – Mobile data – Tap on “add eSIM” in the “SIMs” section – Tap “Use a QR code” – At the bottom of the displayed page, tap “Enter details manually” – Enter you activation code :
• The SM-DP+ Address is the first part of your code between the two $ (see the code above as example) • The Activation Code is the code after the second $ • Confirmation code : (leave this field empty)
Click on Next at the top and follow instructions on screen to complete the installation.

Does exactly what is says on the tin!
Just had two weeks in Japan, and prior to departure this eSim was suggested by Deepseek and it seemed reasonable value so I signed up for a months worth of data.
It worked perfectly on my iPhone 13, and we had great 5G coverage across our extensive travels (even on the bullet trains).
As importantly, their app was really straightforward and clearly showed our usage - which turned out to be a lot less than we had expected.
We will return to Japan again, and I shall be using Ubigi again.

Reception depends on the type of phone you use. Newer phones can get 5G. My phone doesn’t support 5G but I can get LTE. Pretty good service.

Save yourself the aggravation get Ubigi
I originally paid for Airalo but spent an 1+ hrs with customer service trying to get it working. After many failed attempts I downloaded Ubigi and best decision. Downloaded, picked a plan, paid and had an usable esim in less than 5 minutes. Save yourself the aggravation and get Ubigi.

Ubigi Works Well in Portugal
We got the 30 day 10 GB plan for a 3 week trip to Portugal. We used it heavily for navigation, first with public transportation then for driving, and we also used it when wifi was poor at certain lodgings. We drove from Lisbon to Nazare, Serra de Estrela, Braganca, Monsanto, Évora, Tavira, Aljezur and many places in between. We only lost signal briefly while on a 5 hour hike in Serra de Estrela; otherwise, the e-sim worked perfectly.

How to check if a device is ready for eSIM?
Check eSIM compatibility
Smartphones & Cellular Tablets:
Dial (*#06#). If an EID number shows, your device supports eSIM!
Laptops (Windows 10/11):
Open your flyout (bottom-right corner). If Cellular settings are visible, your laptop supports eSIM!
Check Carrier Unlock
On iOS:
Go to Settings > General > About, scroll to Carrier Lock. If it says "No SIM restrictions", your device is unlocked!
On Android:
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network, turn off Auto network selection. If you see multiple available networks, your device is unlocked! If only one appears, or you get an error, it may be locked.
