Huawei P40 and P40 Pro are the first smartphones from Huawei to be equipped with an eSIM. However, the Huawei P40 Pro+ doesn’t support eSIM.
The Huawei P40 and P40 Pro come with a single SIM (SIM + eSIM) and with dual SIM (Nano SIM 1 + NM Card or Nano SIM 2 + eSIM). – If your phone is a single-SIM device, there are still two options displayed on the screen: SIM 1 and SIM 2. The eSIM card is installed in the SIM 2 slot by default. – If your phone is a dual-SIM device and a physical SIM card is already inserted in slot 2, SIM 2 will be disabled when you add an eSIM card. Inserting or removing SIM 2 will not affect the eSIM services.
To activate your eSIM, you need a wireless service carrier which provides you an eSIM profile as well as data plans. eSIM data plans availability may vary depending on country and carrier. How to check eSIM compatibility
Smartphones / Tablets:
Dial *#06#. → If an EID number appears, your device is eSIM-compatible.
Windows 10 / 11:
Press Windows+I. Go to “Network & Internet” → If you see "Cellular", your PC is eSIM-compatible.
How to check carrier unlocking
iPhone / iPad:
Go to Settings > General > About. Scroll to Carrier Lock. → If you see “No SIM restrictions”, your device is unlocked.
Android:
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network. Disable Automatic network selection. → If multiple networks appear, your device is unlocked.
