Just needed data while in Taiwan and…
Just needed data while in Taiwan and Japan. Originally paid $25 for cricket's passport add on which is 5 gigs over 5 days (along with actual cell service), whichever occurs first. Unfortunately, cricket only covers Taiwan and not Japan so a quick search led me to Ubigi. They have fair data plans for the price. Just remember this is data only, no calling or texting. I'm not sure if wifi calling can be done over cell data. I believe RCS chats can be done over data. As my passport ran out, I switched to ubigi for the remainder of my trip. Also, ensure your phone can use E-Sims.

How to check eSIM compatibility

Smartphones / Tablets:

Dial *#06#.
→ If an EID number appears, your device is eSIM-compatible.

Windows 10 / 11:

Press Windows+I.
Go to “Network & Internet”
→ If you see "Cellular", your PC is eSIM-compatible.

How to check carrier unlocking

iPhone / iPad:

Go to Settings > General > About.
Scroll to Carrier Lock.
→ If you see “No SIM restrictions”, your device is unlocked.

Android:

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network.
Disable Automatic network selection.
→ If multiple networks appear, your device is unlocked.
