I bought a Ubigi eSIM profile, but my phone is SIM-locked and I can’t install the eSIM profile. What should I do?

If your device is locked by the carrier you purchased it from, you won’t be able to install a Ubigi eSIM profile until the device is unlocked. To unlock it, contact your carrier and request an IMEI unlock (you will need to provide your device’s IMEI, which can be found in your phone’s settings).

Once your device is unlocked, you will be able to scan the QR code you received by email to install your Ubigi eSIM profile.

Note: Some devices have eSIM functionality but may not support it in certain markets or countries, even if the device is unlocked. In this case, we recommend contacting the device manufacturer for more information.

Ubigi e-sim Japan
I used the Ubigi e-sim across a number of prefectures in Japan in late October 2026 and had uninterrupted coverage all the way. The addition of having the personalised VPN country setting was a wonderful however late realisation. I wished I had known of it earlier as it helped with a number of applications. Further, the ease of being able to top up through the Ubigi App was convenient & fast. I would recommend Ubigi e-sim to everyone.

Great once i got it working
Great once i got it working. But installation was not flawless and I had to use the help function to find out the APN needed to be installed. Once that was done it has been good.

Use in south India
I was a bit confused and unsure how to set it up when I arrived in India and had to follow the instructions a number of times - but when set up no major concerns however I need to check that I have not been charged by my uk network. I think because I had eSIM previously it was easier- so I am tempted to use again - would be better to have more flexibility in data amount and days abroad - I bought more than I think I needed - I was not sure how to check how much data I actually used

I’m satisfied with the service. It is easy to pick data plan and connect when arriving the traveling jurisdiction. There is one thing I want it to improve. The app logged out itself multiple times and I couldn’t log back in due to “error” although I entered the correct email address and the correct password. It frustrated me.

Great for Benelux use!
Ubigi eSIM worked great on my recent trip to Belgium and Amsterdam. It was easy to set up before I left home, so it worked immediately upon landing and I didn't have to spend precious vacation time working on my technology. I had plenty of data for a great price, much better than paying my U.S. carrier's daily fee for overseas use.

How to check eSIM compatibility

Smartphones / Tablets:

Dial *#06#.
→ If an EID number appears, your device is eSIM-compatible.

Windows 10 / 11:

Press Windows+I.
Go to “Network & Internet”
→ If you see "Cellular", your PC is eSIM-compatible.

How to check carrier unlocking

iPhone / iPad:

Go to Settings > General > About.
Scroll to Carrier Lock.
→ If you see “No SIM restrictions”, your device is unlocked.

Android:

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network.
Disable Automatic network selection.
→ If multiple networks appear, your device is unlocked.
